Then first answer for it is, a fixie or fixed-gear bike is a type of bike that doesn’t allow the rider to coast and is a type of single speed bicycle.blogerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15415321214854602173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1788949981652429836.post-1322709415811953182014-05-01T12:07:59.214+01:002014-05-01T12:07:59.214+01:00Hi there,

I have a 10 mile commute and my other bike is just too cumbersome. I'm now happily wizzing in to work.
I have to replace the rear brake cable and I don't know how exactly to do this with this old style of brake lever. Could you perhaps point me in the direction of a video/manual? I haven't had much luck finding anything on the internet as no one seems to use them any more.
thanks,
Jenjenoneillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15945339548994923041noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1788949981652429836.post-12180338508925843902012-08-15T10:08:19.235+01:002012-08-15T10:08:19.235+01:00Hey, I've been thinking of converting my Ralei...Hey, I've been thinking of converting my Raleigh winner to singlespeed too. Did you encounter any difficulties when fitting new wheels etc. I've read that older Raleigh have certain idiosyncrasies which makes fitting certain parts difficult?

Thanks!
Joe Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12687799825737831329noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1788949981652429836.post-86326372975801223842011-03-18T10:14:14.075+00:002011-03-18T10:14:14.075+00:00Ha!, I wonder if he thought brakes were cheating t...Ha!, I wonder if he thought brakes were cheating the first time a car pulled out in front of him...

Fixed is just terrifying on the streets, even with brakes. Whereas singlespeed (the bike can freewheel) is actually useable. Small amounts of hills are ok, more than that though and your on a one-way street to sweaty and walking.

They're great as a simple project to get started on learnign about bikes though.Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13570415802364596822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1788949981652429836.post-45453659925381548152011-03-18T09:23:37.727+00:002011-03-18T09:23:37.727+00:00Wow, nice job - I'm quite tempted to a fixie c...Wow, nice job - I'm quite tempted to a fixie conversion myself, because they look so clean and light. It's really, really popular among the students population. One day I was locking up my bike on Oxford Road when a chap on a fixie nearly mowed me down... ten minutes later I found myself queueing behind him in the bank. He apologised and explained he hadn't got used to his fixie yet, plus he took the brakes off because "that's cheating."northwest is besthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12164157994288389021noreply@blogger.com
